FAQ

Conferences, either phone or in person, can be scheduled simply by sending me a message through the messaging system on this website, through Skyward, or directly at jeremybeckwith@misdmail.org.  Conference times are from 11:30 to 12:15 for the entire team, 2:30 to 3:15 for just Mr. Beckwith, and before or after school in necessary.

How do I schedule a conference with Mr. Beckwith?
  • Come to class prepared: bring a pencil, paper, and other supplies that are needed to function in school.

  • Complete and turn in work ON TIME! Don't wait until the last minute, write assignment dates in your planner and get assignments completed and turned in on time.

  • If you don't pass a test or quiz, correct it.  You can correct all test grades (tests, some quizzes, and some projects) up to passing.

How can my child get a good grade in Mr. Beckwith's class?
  • Check your child's planner and data folder at least once a week.

  • Check the website for assignments and upcoming tests.

  • Ask your child about labs and demonstrations that they have done.

  • Use the supplemental websites found on the Tutoring page for extra help.

  • Ask Mr. Beckwith for help.  There are extra activities and assignments that can be given to help students that are struggling.

  • Tell Mr. Beckwith if you don't feel your child's needs are being met.  My whole purpose for being here is to help your child succeed.

  • Set up tutoring sessions.  If I am not available at the time you need, I will communicate with the other 5th grade science teachers to see if they are.

How can I help my child?
How important are the 5th grade STAAR tests?

For the 5th grade, the Math STAAR and the Reading STAAR must be passed, otherwise students will have to retake the test. The Science STAAR does not have retakes, however, their grade on the Science STAAR is still very important.  If students do not pass the Science STAAR, they risk losing one of their elective classes in middle school and taking a science improvement class, along with their normal 7th and 8th grade science class.

Regular assignments cannot be made up.  However, extra credit assignments will be made available during the six weeks.  Also, depending on how many total grades there are for the six weeks, the lowest grade will sometimes be dropped (this will be the case for the first six weeks).

What happens if my student has a zero in the gradebook?

Assignments will be uploaded to this web site in the corresponding six weeks page.  All of the assignments for the six weeks will be listed.  When the assignment is given, a link will be added to the original document.  Grades will be posted in Skyward.
